From Luca's Family to Clifford Chambers

Luca’s family would like to express their gratitude for the support, love and care that our little community showered upon us during Luca’s illness and for the sympathy following his death.

Luca thrived within our caring, nurturing community. What wonderful memories we have of him. At the refurbishment of The Rec. at numerous fetes, village picnics (playing rounders) and apple days. Careering up and down the village on bike or scooter, walking up to the school bus and enjoying the company of the other village youngsters. An early riser he was always up for The Charity Dawn Walk. He was a popular player at Welford F.C. his perfectly timed “sliding tackle “ something of a legend. Talented at trampoline and gymnastics his impromptu “back flip” was usually welcomed with a shout of “Luca be careful”. Sagging sofas and a hole on the attic wall pay testament to constant energy and practice of “new moves”. As an enthusiastic member of the Clifford Players his portrayal of Silas Snaker the Mischievous Banker will long be remembered.

He was such a bright young man who faced the seventeen months of his illness with fortitude derived from great strength of character. Showing care and consideration for those around him until the very end. As a talented artist he took great care and time in designing individual Christmas Cards for family members complete with a typical Luca message. (Say no more). His sisters, Sofia and Ellia were available when needed, showing such maturity in helping their much loved elder brother to take his mind off the routine of medication and hospital visits. Playing Fortnite with friends and watching Match of the Day with his father was also a great distraction.

Cancer is a stealthy opponent. During his treatments there were highs, lows and tears but also lots of laughter. We cannot speak highly enough of the staff and facilities at Birmingham Children’s Hospital (Luca thought his cleaner was great). He really enjoyed his time at Stratford High School and the staff of The James Brindley School, based at the hospital, helped him continue his education and make hospital stays and visits far more tolerable. We are eternally grateful for the facilities provided by The Teenage Cancer Trust at the hospital and the amazing contribution made by their wonderful youth worker. Other charities played their part. Leukaemia Busters, Molly Olly’s Wishes, Anthony Nolan, Ronald Mc Donald House and others including of course our own Clifford Chambers Charities. The South Warwickshire Paediatric Palliative care team gave timely, sensitive support towards the end. What a wonderful country we live in.

We miss him dreadfully but will keep these and many more special memories in our hearts forever.
